PROF. G.J.V.JAGANNADHA RAJU
Born on January 4, 1932, Prof. G.J.V.J. Raju had an illustrious academic career with the acquisition of Bachelor of Science (Hons.) and Master of Science Degrees in Chemical Technology by 1954 and two Doctorate Degrees in Chemical Engineering / Technology by 1960. His first Doctorate degree, D.Sc. from Andhra University brought him laurels as the first to apply the technique of Fluidization to Electro-Chemical Reactions. The second doctorate “Prof. Techn.” from Technical University, Budapest was conferred on him for the research work carried out on “Studies on Surface Treatment and Corrosion of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys” in the Aluminum Research Laboratories, Budapest. He was the First Foreigner to be conferred the Doctorate Degree of Budapest Technical University in 1960 although the University had come into being in 1784.
He guided several candidates for the award of Ph.D. degrees and M.Tech., projects and published over hundred papers in National and International Journals of repute and many of them are extensively cited in Books / Journals. He was Principal Investigator for several sponsored research projects.
He has over 50 years of distinguished professional career. He served as a member of faculty of Andhra University from 1954, working in different capacities which include the positions of Professor, Head of the Department, Chairman Faculty and Rector till 1986. He was Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University from 1986 to 1988 and Chairman of A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) from 1988 to 1991 and 1995 to 1997. Visiting Faculty IIT, Madras and Emeritus Fellow UGC from 1992 to 1995. He was the Chancellor of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Maha Vidyalaya University, (University established under Sec 3 of UGC Act 1956) Kancheepuram from Oct. 1996 till Oct. 2008.
He was consultant for several industrial Organizations including Defense establishments and EDCIL (Government of India undertaking) for a few projects including Quality Audit of Police Training Programs.
He was Chairman, National Board of Accreditation (AICTE) and member of several National bodies such as National Assessment and Accreditation Council (UGC), UGC – Committee of Accreditation of Tests, Undergraduate Board of MHRD (Govt. of India), Technology panel UGC, Executive Council, AICTE. He was also member of Boards of Management and academic bodies of several educational institutions, Board of Governors of four Regional Engineering Colleges (Srinagar, Suratkal, Trichinapalli and Warangal), Visitor’s (President of India) nominee for selection of Faculty of Delhi University, Governor’s nominee for the court of Jadhavpur University, UGC nominee on advisory committee for centre of excellence UDCT, Bombay.
He was the recipient of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers “Herdillia Award 1983” for Excellence in basic research in Chemical Engineering, Government of Andhra Pradesh State Award for “Meritorious Teachers 1984-85”, Systems Society of India – Prof. Subbayyan Gold Medal for his contribution to the field of Chemical Engineering/Technology and for development and quality improvement in technical education in the country in the year 1995. TARANGINI of CINCINNATI, OHIO in 1997 honored him in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Technical Education. Indian Society for Technical Education conferred on him “Honorary Fellowship 2007” in recognition of commendable services rendered by him for the growth and development of ISTE and invaluable leadership provided towards the development and promotion of Technical Education in India.
In appreciation of the exemplary contributions made by Prof. Raju for over five decades towards Chemical Engineering Education and Research in the Country, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers presented “Prof. B.P. Godrej Life Time Achievement Award 2009” to him.
He has several Firsts to his credit: besides being the first foreigner to have received the Prof. Techn. Degree from Technical University, Budapest, the first Chairman of National Board of Accreditation (AICTE) New Delhi, the first Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, the first Rector of Andhra University, the first Principal of S.R.K.R.Engineering College, Bhimavaram, A.P. and the first Chairman, Board of Studies of Chemical Engineering, S.V.University, Tirupati.

Prof. G. kanaka Mahalakshmi M.com.MBA,MHRM,Ph.d is currently working as Professor and principal in Visakha Institute for professional studies, Visakhapatnam.She has 17 years of teaching as well as administrative experience at post graduation level. She has presented several papers and participated in National and International seminars and also conducted faculty Development programmes workshops and Seminars. She has published several articles in National and International Journals and also conducted several training programmes and organised seminars to PG Students.
